This is why I have a hard time understanding the gold standard or any way we can value shiny things from the ground. What if the people of Barbados find the largest gold payload in history, does that mean we have to completely re-shift the economy? I’m not smart enough to understand these abstract concepts. It just seems idiotic to me, like the whole world is saying “ooh shiny!”
